READ ALL: I bought these because they were the cutest hourglass I could find, although I was a bit sad because I thought they were plastic and I usually hate plastic things. Well, turns out it's not plastic, it's glass. They seem to be very durable, the kids have dropped them a few times and they are still walking around. It was actually an adult who finally came over 1 minute. I'm still trying to tell the kids not to touch them because the minutes are interrupted. I bought it because I read that you should teach your kids real time so they will be very good at navigating time when they grow up. If you tell your kids to do this and 5 minutes and then do it in 20, it won't help them understand the time, because those 5 minutes was 20 yesterday, 5 today, and 10 tomorrow, and so on. Now we tell our kids they will do this in about 30 minutes and they wait patiently. Since I'm always busy, I also set an alarm on my phone to remind myself that the kids timer is up and now we have to do what I promised. It's interesting that kids don't throw tantrums anymore when I say we'll do it later. You just sit quietly and calmly, waiting for the minute to run out. I have an hourglass first because they are 2 years old and younger. So I wanted something visual that they would love to look at and wait for. When they get a little better, I'll tick over like a timer on the hour. I hope you find it useful. l.
