I bought these to try and be more eco-friendly. When I first used them they looked like regular paper towels. I washed them in the cold with bleach and put them in the reuse box. They're shrunk about an inch on each side, but after washing they're much softer and better at absorbing moisture. I have several that have been washed several times and are still in perfect condition. Bleach will help disinfect them and prevent stains. They don't shrink after the first wash. My wife loves them and I have passed some on to my mother who loves them too. Be careful not to throw them away because when they're used and crumpled up on the counter, they look like regular paper towels. While they don't completely eliminate the need for paper towels (I wouldn't use them for really big messes), they certainly reduce the amount my family uses. I will be buying more when they go to the landfill and will be buying some for the holidays as gifts.
