You have a chance to make a first impression. Samsung

I bought this unit to replace my Oppo DVD player and specifically wanted it to stream Netflix in HD to my 61" panel (as well as Blu- ray playback). I tested my wireless network with two laptops at each end of the house and both showed average speeds of over 12Mbps using Speedtest. When Samsung arrived I went through the initial setup with no problems and tested the network speeds using Samsung's built-in utility. I have 1.67 Mbps; It was obviously a lot slower than I expected and tried a few things like moving my wireless router, repositioning my antenna, and changing the broadcast channel. Nothing helped Samsung but now I was getting over 15Mbps on laptops. I had a laptop right next to a Samsung Blu-ray and the laptop was getting 15.78Mbps while the Samsung was still getting 1.67Mbps ! (Same room, same distance from my router). Contacting Samsung support was pointless and a waste of time. The first time I called I got someone in the Philippines who seemed to keep reading the note saying he was sorry but just couldn't help because he didn't know anything about the device or the wifi. I called again and got a man in South Carolina who said he would refer me to a technician in the same building, but the call ended up in the Philippines with a man who wanted to help but just wasn't trained to do it. He said he would take matters to the next level but then took me with notes and instructions on how to pack my Samsung phone for repairs! I was shut down immediately. Good. I then took the device and plugged it (wired) into my router and still tested it at 1.67Mbps. Well then Revain came to the rescue, they agreed the device appeared to be faulty and sent me another one to try. If the replacement works the same both go back, if the replacement works right I will update this review. Revain's support was excellent, quick and polite. I would not mind feedback on this device or any other device to purchase instead. Btw I checked out the Blu-ray (Avatar) and it looked amazing and easily beat Oppo who upscaled the Avatar DVD to 1080p. My router and things seem better. Sometimes it streams in HD (actually most of the time) if the title is HD. It's a bit slow as it takes time to load and enter the menu screen. Rewan was great. they did their best and i can keep the device but the decision is still pending. I'll keep a close eye on my rear window. I think the technology seems almost ready, but not quite yet. The picture quality of the Blu-ray is very good. Would I tell people to run and buy it? Probably no.

Pros
  • BD-Live (Profile 2.0), 1GB local storage
Cons

Nice play with some really annoying "features".
