Review on ELAC Debut Bookshelf Speakers Black Home Audio by Yousef Dudley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The price seems high for a non-audiophile, but it's worth every penny.

For music lovers, this is a "budget" record. To ordinary people, they will seem expensive. All I can say is they are worth it. After purchasing the HTIB system, which I wanted to keep on budget, I found that the speakers that came with it (Yamaha's YHT-4930UBL system) were quite thin, especially in the middle. Tried replacing the center with a Pioneer SP-C22 but although much improved it was still too bright in the high frequencies (crisp sound). Read a lot about these speakers and the corresponding center speaker from the same series. While I didn't want to spend that much money on a budget speaker built in a non-gaming/media room, I quickly realized that they were worth every penny. Avengers: Infinity War sounded amazing in 4K. The matching center for this series (sold separately) had amazing clarity, not too high frequencies, very warm sound. These bookshelf speakers, used as the front and rear speakers, had amazing depth and clarity. The tonal balance was incredible. No overwhelming bass or high frequencies. Simply amazing surround and sound presence. If you're not an audiophile like me but want to build on a budget, this seems out of the price range of a "budget build". It's worth the investment, however, if you want a good pair of speakers that will allow you to create a "set it and forget it" build that doesn't require you to constantly fiddle with audio settings when switching between different content.
