Review on Be Quiet BK003 Shadow Rock by Wiktor ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The product did not disappoint, the quality pleases.

A very controversial model. On the one hand, the overall quality of workmanship, excellent fan, and neat set captivate, and on the other hand, some miscalculations in the design are depressing. Very awkward setup. It is necessary, while holding the heatsink in place, trying not to smear the thermal paste all over the socket, while simultaneously tightening the clamping screws from the back. In addition, there are excellent chances to lubricate the factory thermal paste while installing the mounts on the radiator. For those who have an old case without a window for the backplate, in general, the only option is to remove the motherboard and then you still need to somehow hold it during installation. If you apply your own thermal paste, especially a thick one, then do not overdo it with a layer - the clamping force at the cooler mount is small, and the excess may simply not squeeze out. There are several nuances regarding the cooling of the near-socket space. Firstly, on the AMD platform, the cooler can be oriented either above the mosfets, in which case the case fan can interfere with it, or above the RAM modules, and then there may be problems with access to the motherboard power connector, RAM modules. Secondly, the cooler fan creates a small (price for quiet operation) and hot airflow. As a result, one should not expect any serious cooling of the space under the cooler. The boxed cooler of the Ryzen 2600 processor copes with this task much better. It is clear that the cooling of the near-socket space is a kind of side effect and no one promised it. But for those who choose top-flow based on such requirements, it will be useful to know this. Otherwise, it copes with its task, Ryzen 2600 does not allow heating up over 56 degrees in LinX, even when the room temperature is 28, leaving a certain margin for overclocking and at the same time almost no noise. Photo in comparison with the box.

Pros
  • Small height. Some kind, but blowing around the socket space. Decent fin area for a top-flow cooler, efficient heatsink. Very quiet fan. Mounts for AM4.
Cons
  • In my opinion, the clamping force of the mount could be higher. Very inconvenient installation (except for the LGA2022 platform). The price is high.

Pros below: An excellent quiet option, cools 130W percent, 600-700 rpm, you can't hear it. Cons below: Thermal paste applied to the base, for replacement.
