Review on ๐Ÿ”‹ Weller Cordless Soldering Iron Battery Powered - Unleash Versatile Portability! by David Naranjo

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Two wrong ones in a row. Very disappointing!

The first one I bought only heated the tip on low power so I returned it and bought another. Same model. This time, the tip did not heat up at either low or high power. One of the photos I uploaded shows the temperature of a soldering iron tip with a non-contact laser thermometer. Even if the power is on and all LEDs indicate that the iron is ready for use, placing the laser on the handpiece will indicate that the iron is still at room temperature. The instructions mention a button that should be released to save battery power. Try as I might, I couldn't find anything that looked like a button. There's just a slide switch that turns the iron off, on low, or on high power, depending on its position. The price in my opinion. In addition, the kit comes with a tool for removing tips. From what I can gather from the manual, the tool is inserted into the grooves on the side of the tip and then twisted to loosen the tip from the body of the soldering iron. This tool is small, appears to be made of stainless steel and is uncomfortable in my opinion. If it's out of place, the spike can still be removed with a pair of pliers that can grasp the base of the spike and pull out. When I looked at other Weller cordless soldering irons to buy, I found that this battery model is 4AA, the 3 AA battery model and the Li-ion battery model use different tips. Aside from making it harder for third parties to make compatible tips, I see no technical reason why the tips for this generation of Weller cordless soldering irons should have been made any differently. The temperature rating for each model is not so different that each model requires tips to be made from different alloys for each model. I am writing a random review. Usually for products that work well and work properly to let others know it's a safe purchase. In this case, I have to write a negative review to warn others about the shortcomings of this soldering iron. The LED is located on the underside next to the tip base and lights up when the soldering iron switch is in the position to heat the tip. . It's bright enough to be used as a small flashlight. However, I think Weller should have included at least one more LED at the top opposite the existing LED. Since the LED is at the base and only on one side, the tip itself casts a shadow on the area to be illuminated. If you turn the soldering iron upside down to change the position of the LED, the shadow will simply move in the opposite direction, defeating the purpose. I have a well-lit soldering station that plugs into an outlet and I use it for soldering. But in some cases, it's more convenient to take a cordless soldering iron to a project if it's well lit. However, relying on just one LED to light up your workspace can be problematic. It's not hard to imagine accidental overheating of components from sitting the iron on it for too long, as the solder can melt in a dark area before it's noticed on the better-lit side. I felt it necessary to write down my impressions of it. Soldering iron to help other buyers who are considering buying this model. Getting two defects in a row made me question the quality of the material used as well as the quality assurance after the manufacturing process. One look inside the soldering iron while troubleshooting why it wasn't getting hot caused me to change my mind about replacing it with a third one. I learned that if the soldering iron worked, replacement tips would be expensive and limited to cone and chisel shaped tips. . The soldering iron is not that expensive. But the $40 3-tips are overpriced in my opinion and remind me of inkjet printers which are attractively priced because the cost of replacing cartridges is high for them. For me, this is no longer a soldering iron.
