Type of review

I have several soldering irons including quality traditional Weller products and although I have recently asked questions about some of their products (mostly value for money compared to unfamiliar brands) the Weller brand is a reliable name. The problem with my fancy stations, though, is that they're too big to carry around, and even with my old stationary temperature station with an iron, I still have to lug around an extension cord somewhere if I want to use them off the bench. Bingo! I've wanted this for a long time

Originally reviewed October 14, 2021 I don't use a soldering iron very often. Apparently I've only used it for the past few years to fix or install something on my boat so I don't have loose connections given the boat's movement and vibration. I solder the wires instead of just using a plastic twist lock to connect the wires. If the boat is operated in salt water, all the more reason to solder the cables. I still have two soldering irons. Two wrong ones in a row. Very disappointing!

The first one I bought only heated the tip on low power so I returned it and bought another. Same model. This time, the tip did not heat up at either low or high power. One of the photos I uploaded shows the temperature of a soldering iron tip with a non-contact laser thermometer. Even if the power is on and all LEDs indicate that the iron is ready for use, placing the laser on the handpiece will indicate that the iron is still at room temperature.
