Bingo! I've wanted this for a long time

Originally reviewed October 14, 2021 I don't use a soldering iron very often. Apparently I've only used it for the past few years to fix or install something on my boat so I don't have loose connections given the boat's movement and vibration. I solder the wires instead of just using a plastic twist lock to connect the wires. If the boat is operated in salt water, all the more reason to solder the cables. I still have two soldering irons. One of them is an old, simple AC heated iron. To use this on a boat I need to run my 100ft extension to the boat. Hardly an efficient use of my time and it hurts to deal with a long cord. The other iron is a Micro Torch gas device that uses a cartridge in the handle. But he uses butane. It turns out illegal drug companies use butane, which is why it's become a controlled substance in California, making it hard to come by. This gas tool does offer a soldering solution, but the one I have is a bit more difficult to start a flame. I have to click-click-click the launcher and fiddle with the controls until it finally starts. This battery powered soldering iron is awesome. I use it with eneloop rechargeable batteries which are pretty much everything we use around my house. As promised, it heats up quickly, even with batteries. How convenient! The handpiece cover has a cut-out for the power switch, which prevents the iron from heating up. Nice feature. I don't know how long the batteries in this iron last, but I don't care because I just don't need to use it for more than a few minutes each time. When the batteries are low, all I have to do is change the batteries. I prefer this design over the built-in, non-removable battery. Pros: - Good materials - Good build - Comfortable to hold - Easy to install batteries - Heats up in about 45 seconds. Cons: - I wish it came with a pouch or box to keep things together. I highly recommend this soldering iron.
