Review on πŸ”’ Enhanced Security and Convenience: Prime-Line E 2104 Sliding Door Cylinder Lock with Schlage Keyway by Robert Helstrom

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Key customization is a problem, but there's an easy fix.

Everything is fine except for the lock cylinder. I gave it 3 stars because the other reviewers are right that the old/original Schlage keys will not fit without modification. Would be 1 star but I found there is a very simple mod to fit other/original Schlage buttons. The problem is not the thickness of the keys, as others have said, but the shape of the key itself. The new cylinder is not as regular as the original Schlage cylinders. It appears that the quality control of the tool used to cut the keyway was poor. The problem with the fit is the laterally protruding flat shoulder at the base of the key teeth. This flange has a very square cut in the original keys and keyways, but the keyway on this cylinder is not square at this corner. You can file off that corner of your original keys and they will fit perfectly without affecting compatibility with the original locks in any way. The attached photo shows unmodified (left) and modified (right) keys. The mouse pointer shows the edge/corner that needs to be modified. This edge/corner has been "softened"/trimmed in a modified key.
