Well there are a few other reviews on this site that I would like to confirm but also deny. I've used this successfully to give myself multiple physical ethernet connections in our master bedroom. We have FIOS and it worked great. Other reviews said it was a device for Time Warner. That's right. If you go to the advanced section of the user interface, the automatic firmware update option will redirect to the Time Warner website. And rightly so that this system has been replaced with a new updated unit from Actiontec. That's why this thing is so cheap - it was made for Time Warner and most likely is no longer for sale. BUT - this thing solved my problem for an incredibly cheap price. As I said, I have a FIOS and have set up a WiFi mesh network at home with some Ubiquiti devices. That's fantastic, by the way. I live on an acre of land and at my neighbors' houses they offer a better signal than their own WiFi. Very strong and no problem. The problem was in my Tivo Mini box. They only support one physical ethernet connection, so I used a wireless range extender with its physical IP port as a bridge. The signal and bandwidth were great, but random interference caused the Tivo Mini TV to shut down. I figured a few bucks for Actiontec would be a good bet. Even if it was a failure, I've never used MoCA before, so at least it would be a learning experience. We have a coax out in the bedroom so I decided to give it a try. Now my questions are: (1) will its signal compete with the FIOS signal over the coax. And (2) can it communicate directly with the Actiontec FIOS router or do we need two of them to complete the network? (1) Turns out Verizon was selling the same box. And the Time Warner firmware doesn't seem to make a difference. That way I didn't have to use a FIOS router to separate the bedroom coax from the living room coax. (2) It turns out that the MoCA in this box can communicate directly with the MoCA in the FIOS router (aka Actiontec). ). And believe it or not, no setup was required. It had a default IP address (192.168.99.254), but when connected to coax, it picked up the DHCP settings directly from the FIOS router. In order to update the information on the admin page (passwords etc.) you need to guess some IP addresses based on your DHCP rules. But other than that it's very simple. Based on past experience, I won't add this to Ubiquiti's Wi-Fi mesh network, but it seems like a pretty strong signal, but it's not necessary. The only downside is that this box goes into EOL mode. So don't expect much from future firmware and not even sure if I can update it. I checked the website and it works with the latest firmware, but this can become an issue over time. But if that happens in a few years, a few dollars spent here won't matter and we can upgrade to a modern MoCA. But now I know how easy MoCA is.
