Works as an extender or access point for any Ethernet or MOCA internet

Works great with fios and optimally. With Fios you have the choice to use Ethernet or coax as input. With any other ISP, you can just use the ethernet input and instantly have a hotspot or extender. Easy installation instructions.1. Turn on the device.2. Connect coaxial cable (FIOS only) or Ethernet from any internet router. 3. Find the LAN IP address of this Actiontec device. It must start with 192.168.1.___ If you don't know how to find ACTIONTEC local IP addresses, download the Fing app on…

Pros
  • Builds trust
Cons
  • Sad hardware

Note: My firmware is v0.16.8.4. I don't think this device should be very consumer friendly, but I develop software that suits me. If you have too many technical questions about a product, it may not be for you. My estimate is based on those expectations, two 1Gbps ports, dual-band WiFi, and the low price of MoCA 1.1. Setup Page", simply display it to see the radio buttons, make your changes, and click the Apply button as usual. If you're using the Chrome browser, right-click the heading for…

Great wired and wireless extender

I have a Verizon FiOS quantum gateway in my basement (not ideal) with a 75mb/75mb internet connection and I only had one bandwidth of 4MB in the master bedroom, which is a big problem when streaming movies. I bought this extender and now I've increased my WiFi bandwidth by 20x. I opted for wired Ethernet for streaming and expanded my WiFi coverage as an added bonus. Contrary to some claims, you do not need cable television for this, but use the existing coaxial cable in the apartment. I…

Ethernet over coax good for network adapters

I have a 20 year old two story house and don't expect an ethernet cable for my entertainment center. But I have an old cable TV line in the wall, right where I would run an ethernet cable if I could. So I bought 2 of these coax adapters for $15 each. The best network investment I've ever made. I have a bandwidth of 120 Mbit/s. Given that 8K TV requires 50Mbps, it's safe to say that my bandwidth needs are met. I didn't have a MoCA network prior to this purchase, unlike most browsers who only…

Works with Verizon FIOS, easy to install

I have a Verizon FIOS service with an Actiontec MI424WR router. I had a very poor WiFi signal in my bedroom. After some research I found this solution to extend my Wi-Fi signal and decided to give it a try. The wireless network extender must be connected with a coaxial cable. Since I have a TV in my master bedroom, I already had the coaxial cable. However, this must be taken into account by a potential buyer. Everything you need comes with an extension cord. Installation was very easy. I…

For the price it's worth it.

Edit 7/16/18: Downgrading some stars on this product. The Wi-Fi on it is ridiculously unreliable, causing wireless devices to lose connection through the MoCA bridge. The signal is strong, but traffic is no longer being routed through the bridge back to the network. However, as a MoCA 1.1 bridge to Ethernet devices, this is a reliable and probably cheapest way to add more MoCA nodes to my network for use with Ethernet. The two Ethernet ports are useful - I connected one to a TiVO Mini Vox and…

Works great, perfect MoCA starter kit

Note. This is NOT a cable modem. This is NOT a wireless router. You do NOT activate it with your cable carrier. This is an access point that creates an extension of your existing wireless network (in general) and requires a wired network to carry the signal. See below for details. However, there was no quick start guide, splitter, or Ethernet cable in my kit. I didn't need them, however, and instructions (not that you needed them!) are on the manufacturer's website. Four stars out of five for…

Amazing value for money and functionality - with a small catch

Well there are a few other reviews on this site that I would like to confirm but also deny. I've used this successfully to give myself multiple physical ethernet connections in our master bedroom. We have FIOS and it worked great. Other reviews said it was a device for Time Warner. That's right. If you go to the advanced section of the user interface, the automatic firmware update option will redirect to the Time Warner website. And rightly so that this system has been replaced with a new…
