Ethernet over coax good for network adapters

I have a 20 year old two story house and don't expect an ethernet cable for my entertainment center. But I have an old cable TV line in the wall, right where I would run an ethernet cable if I could. So I bought 2 of these coax adapters for $15 each. The best network investment I've ever made. I have a bandwidth of 120 Mbit/s. Given that 8K TV requires 50Mbps, it's safe to say that my bandwidth needs are met. I didn't have a MoCA network prior to this purchase, unlike most browsers who only need to buy one because their routers already support MoCA. It's not mine. But 2 of them made a point-to-point connection with no problems. Bonus: Each device is a WiFi-N hotspot to expand WiFi coverage when needed. (Unless you need to install custom firmware from https://github.com/Saturn49/wecb/releases and turn off the radio like I did.) Being a purist when it comes to networking stuff, I'll buy a newer one someday MoCA adapters that support gigabit or a gap in the wall for cable routing. But I am very satisfied with this insanely cheap solution. The latency is only 3 ms for a router. I used to have >300Mbps Wi-Fi in an entertainment center and while this solution has lower bandwidth it seems faster and I don't chew on Wi-Fi bandwidth.

Pros
  • Very good value
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
