I have mixed feelings about the thing. If you can get a good device that works, for the price, I think it's a pretty good deal. As I drive it I fully understand how this thing can eventually break/wear out if you push it to its somewhat limited limits. Gross mechanical defects aside, it's literally just an AC motor, a starting capacitor, and a switch. So you might think that the hacking possibilities would be limited, but of course not. The first one they sent me had a broken motor, which boiled down to either a dead/damaged spool or possibly a deformed bearing, but probably something to do with the winding. How it passes tests, I do not understand. Depending on the starting position of the rotor, it will work, but less than a full turn, and stay in the same place. After figuring it out I sent it back (which was a pain as the item weighs a lot) and they sent me a new one. No problem. This new one worked straight away and for what I need it for (light sanding on small projects) it works very well. For the price you really can't beat it. It's definitely not very high quality, so if you're looking for an investment property, look elsewhere. If you are a serious carpenter I think you will find this disappointing. On Revain there are other models in the next price level, but they all look the same (at least in construction). Maybe they upgraded QC motors or something. They're probably all made in just one factory in China that makes everything, and then they get different brands. Maybe they add first choice engines to other brands and Wen gets second choice or something. or miss me I have these and a band saw from them and wasn't thrilled but they work for what I need them for. I also got their cheap scroll saw and for some reason it works really well and I'm impressed for the price. These are all consumer/waste power tools. Don't get your hopes up and you won't be disappointed. If anything, this should serve as a reminder of why good tools cost as much as they do.
