Magenets seem to stick while playing. There is no place in the design for them if they are removed from the game. It is very compact, less than the thickness of a check book. The hinges broke a couple of times, but we were able to get them back with a little finesse. We lost a part in the car and after trying everything we emailed the company. They spoke as if to replace a piece. If not, it's pretty easy to replace the missing part with magnetic material.
