When I first received this my first reaction was that it is quite large. After all, the device itself contains (4) "D" size batteries. The woman agreed, and he lay in the package for some time. I was hesitant to destroy the package but then realized that the package has loops to open and unzip so you can take it out and hold it to the picture for size comparison. When I did it didn't look that big when I held it up to the picture. You can mount it on the back of the frame or directly on the wall. I decided to hang it on the wall. First, the back of the frame was uneven and I was also reluctant to drill into the back of a fairly good frame. After I installed it, we both loved it! The picture is dark and it lights it up nicely. I also like the remote control so you don't have to look for the button on the light itself. Very happy with this product!
