Mandatory for transmission cooler

transmission cooler are cheap insurance. However, before I discovered this thermostat, gears changed quite a bit in cold weather. That should solve this problem and even at lows of 40s I can tell from the shift quality and sensor data that the transmission is coming up to operating temperature quickly as it did before the cooler was installed. Other cars never seem to warm up the transmission in freezing temperatures. I like that a small amount of liquid leaks through the thermostatic valve to keep circulation going. Using an IR thermometer I can see that the transmission cooler is keeping the temperature close to ambient while the hot side of the valve warms up. Then around 155 I see the transmission cooler starting to get a little warm. I loaded the minivan while towing a boat and I can't get the transmission temp much above 180. Works as advertised. The bracket allows the thermostat to be mounted vertically or horizontally. I believe the thread is 1/4"-20. Highly recommend using threadlock. I didn't end up using a clamp, but it was nice to have one in case I needed one. Hose fittings from the hardware store worked good.I didn't think it came with sheet metal screws to attach the bracket.Once out of warranty it looks like you could put a crescent wrench on the top, unscrew it and remove the thermostat.I haven't tried it, and I'm not sure where you could get another thermostat but it looks like it might be possible.

Pros
  • Ensures faster warm-up
Cons
  • Some small things
