The product is the most common, it could be worse.

The lens is neither fish nor meat. With a completely ordinary picture for fixation. Not genre like 35 and still not portrait like 85.

I love this focal length as a convenient alternative to 85.
Good for outdoor or indoor portraits.
Often smears AF.
It does not work on an open hole, image degradation and vignetting appear.

I use with D700 12 mp.
It happens that you have to stretch the frame in post-processing.

In general, I'm satisfied with half a dozen. Budget and allows you to make good, creative shots.
If there is a choice, take 58. Definitely take 58.

Pros

price, weight, structural reliability. opportunity to take quality pictures

Cons

Slow AF. Often rubs. On an open hole 1.8, 1.4. Washes the cut, vignetting appears. For me personally, this is not a disadvantage.

Excellent lens, left it as a staffer on the d610, selling 85g, although it is considered the best portrait lens, fifty dollars is not much inferior to it, but it wins in versatility
