I wanted a pair of GMRS walkie talkies and was attracted by their price and frankly the cool number pad. They arrived nicely packaged and worked great. I've since investigated this type of GMRS radio a little more closely and have concluded that they are probably related to or copies of Baofeng radios. I watched a YouTube video about Baofeng and their menu system is basically the same as these. You can turn off the voice, but you should be aware that by default there is a female voice with a heavy Asian accent telling you every time you press a keyboard key. However, she speaks English. I find it funny, but I've read other reviews where people mention turning it off. From what I saw in the video, Baofeng radios have an American accented lady. When testing the range, I was able to communicate at a distance of 1 mile within the city. I had to get out of the car but my wife was at our house and we were able to talk remotely.
