I use them to highlight a haunted trail scene. I drilled a small hole on the side for the power wires, soldered one to the middle wire, and taped the other to the switch thread on the back. I mounted them on a simple stand that could be screwed to the fence. I sealed the holes and seams with electrical tape. 12V power is available in the scene, so I connected them in series and ran a 7809 linear regulator in a waterproof metal case that doubles as a heatsink. Simple and beautiful! And it would be quick to remove the cables and restore battery life. Since they are directional you don't have to worry about seeing their full intensity and the issue will be moot anyway because I wear glasses.
