I come from a short history of cheap crimping tools. These devices were not easy to use; poor quality, inaccurate processing. I ended up using my needle nose pliers as often as I used the crimping pliers myself. It's the complete opposite. The jaws are very precise - and due to the parallel movement of the jaws, they are probably more accurate than most crimping machines in this class. The clamp is strong, the ratchet mechanism is durable. In short, I really like these pliers and haven't had a single bad crimp since I received them. It's not hard plastic, but definitely not a comfortable soft rubber. Also advice for electronics lovers. When crimping small connectors, leave the connectors attached to the ribbon they are placed on. Cut the tape yourself. This gives you room to hold the wire and connector as you insert it into the crimping tool. Then press the connector against the bottom teeth to keep it from rotating when you close the crimping tool.
