No luck with Windows 8, bad support

I bought a polarized version of this camera from Revain. After it arrived I tried to get it working on my Win8 machine. Vain. I'm a computer professional with over 30 years of experience customizing a long history of windows platforms for OEM distribution and also a software developer so I'm familiar with computers, installing software and listing drivers for so many windows and Fully familiar with Linux platforms . platforms. (.for what it's worth.) I went to the company's website and reinstalled what I expect to be the latest software from their website. Still no luck. I called the company for assistance and got some quick questions about "is it connected" from the admin. She referred me to another man who said I might need a special driver for Win 8. (By the way, Win8 compatibility is written just above the serial number on the disc case). No special driver requirements are mentioned in the documents or on the website. So ok I bite - where do I get this particular driver from? He didn't know and the other guy would have to call me back. So the next guy is calling me back (so far so good) and this guy is amazing! With no detailed questions about my machine or configuration, he simply "knows" that I must have a problem with something on MY system interfering with his software/camera! Just unbelievable. I'm so glad he was able to tell me in less than 2 minutes that the problem was clearly with my system and not with his driver, software or camera. Think how long this saved me the trouble of digging and fixing this problem! I'm so glad my computer was clearly at fault because now I know there's no point in further diagnosing this issue. Why waste all this time - I'll just send it back to Revain for a refund! So if you're considering buying this device and you're having any issues, hope you're lucky, as I was, almost clairvoyantly finding out that the problem is with your computer and not its device or software. Security! By the way, this camera identifies itself on the USB bus as "DMC-1213 USB Camera" and apparently didn't give me enough resources of its own to try to solve this problem "with my system", it looks like I am this camera was made by another foreign manufacturer. (.and unfortunately it seems the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) doesn't release any driver or software updates). You can search the web yourself, but I think if someone wants to sell an OEM product privately, they might want to offer a little value-added support. Tag this company's name on the page and send them out the door! UPDATE: I've spent a little more time trying to figure out what exactly the problem is with this device. Surprisingly, the built-in Windows 8 Metro ("CAMERA") app works great with this device. Therefore, contrary to the clairvoyance of the company's tech support, there are NO problems with my system. Since the Win8 camera application sees the microscope and displays its image without any problems, this most likely rules out problems with the driver or the microscope itself. Therefore, the incompatibility issues between this device and Windows 8 are due to the poorly written viewer application that comes bundled with it. So if you're willing to log out of their app and find a way to view the microscope output yourself, this might be the device for you. It looks like their support department needs to spend more time fixing their application and less time telling customers they have a problem with their computer.
