Review on DisplayPort VGA Adapter Cable Converter by Ronny Welch

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Worked with my Lenovo ThinkCentre on Fedora Linux.

Use two monitors with a Linux computer. I tried using a USB to VGA adapter for this purpose and found that while this is a good option for Windows, it doesn't work at all on Linux. Shortly thereafter, I discovered that my video outputs contained both a display port and a VGA output, and since that output was part of the hardware (and not emulated by software), I had a good chance of hooking up a second monitor to my computer .what would work with Linux. It worked, but not without problems. My Lenovo ThinkCentre computer has an issue where it won't boot when a DisplayPort to VGA adapter is connected. Of course I could fix that by updating the BIOS (maybe), but that's not my idea of fun. So I started the computer with just the VGA port connected and then plugged in this adapter. It worked and I don't restart my computers that often so this was a working solution for me. I have no idea how I would handle another computer. If you're on Windows (or Mac I think) the USB solution is better. At startup there are no problems, everything works. For Linux, this will probably be the best solution.

Pros
  • INTEGRATED DISPLAY CABLE: The adapter cable has a slim and flexible design with an adapter chip integrated into the VGA connector, reducing clutter and ensuring a clean installation on a desktop workstation in the office or at home.
Cons
  • Available in white only
