With about 76,000 miles the factory front brakes on my 2014 Toyota Tundra have seen better days. After doing some research I decided to replace the pads and rotors with a mid-range rotor and upgraded GT pads available at my local parts store. The hope was to improve braking performance over stock. After the "upgrade" I was less than impressed. The braking performance has not increased compared to the series, but has even been significantly reduced. It caused some anxiety under braking because I knew I couldn't stop as well as I used to. It was far from an update. At 80,000 km my rear brake pads had to be replaced. Seeing this as an opportunity to upgrade to a familiar performance pad while also switching front pads. I went with a set of mid-range replacement rotors and a set of high-performance Hawk SD brake pads for the rear axle. I also got a set of Hawk SD Performance brake pads to replace the GT pads on the front of the truck and prayed it would improve braking this time. I saw some great reviews on pads so I decided to give it a try. After replacing all of the components and washers in the new Hawk SD Pads as instructed, I allowed all of the components to cool slightly before running a battery of tests. I had to see if the pad hype was worth the price or if it was just a bunch of hype like the GT pad set I got. I did my first test at 40mph and did a panic stop to see if there was any improvement. I was struck by the awe of braking distance, but equally concerned that the Toyota symbol that was in the center of my steering wheel was now permanently embossed on my forehead. Undeterred, I attempted another test. My next test was a panic stop at 60mph. Once again I was impressed and concerned. I was impressed with the reduced stopping distance of the Hawk SD pads compared to the factory and GT pads. ABS had to work several times, which had never happened on a dry road. Braking distance is over 50% longer than original and much longer than GT pads. I was mildly concerned that the dental work that was once stuck firmly in the back of my mouth was now permanently embedded in a truck windshield. Feeling that this might be an anomaly, I ran a final test. My most recent test was an emergency stop at 88mph. Considering recent testing, I was equally impressed with the results of the Hawk SD pads, which exceeded anything the factory pads had ever produced. Incidentally, after this last test, I was also able to revise my vote in the 2016 presidential election. It's possible I'm in a parallel universe now. I'm currently afraid of further tests. I would highly recommend Hawk SD pads for any application. I wish you the best of luck and my god have mercy on your soul.
