Not sure what happened to them in the last year

Last year I bought 3 metal packs. They weren't fancy, but they did their job. I needed more, I accidentally ordered the plastic and didn't really like it. So I ordered the metal ones again, but they're definitely not the same as before. Metal now makes a creaking/creaking sound when opening, and also no longer opens/closes with a click like the old ones. Now it's looser and thinner.
