Like a private investigator for your crappy cheating furnace.

I bought this in my oven after constant disappointment. I live in a rented apartment and my oven sucks. I suspected it wasn't as hot as claimed when I preheated it. It's no big deal if you pop a frozen pizza in the oven for twenty minutes, but I love to cook. I feel like my oven is cheating on me. I had to catch him on the spot. I've been baking bread for about a year. I'm usually very comfortable in the kitchen and I know how to do research. I buy the right flour and yeast, I measure the humidity in the room when I raise the dough, I hide the sourdough under the bed where neither dog nor woman can find it, I inevitably forget the sourdough itself, I find two months later , if I turn the mattress over I will omit the leaven and just make a regular white bread dough and then put the bread in the oven for the time specified in the recipe to bake. After all this work, I always end up with a crusty bread. It's not good for eating, but it's great for propping up the fridge door when I put food in it. It's like dwarf bread; I'm pretty sure there's a line in The Fellowship of the Rings where Sam complains about this. Anyway, I've decided to settle the dispute: Am I a bad baker or is my oven to blame? So I bought this thermometer. Result: My oven really sucks! If it beeps at 350F, the thermometer reads 300F. Goodbye delicious chicken parmesan; Hello salmonella! Goodbye, carefully planned dinner at 7:30pm; Hello, 20:15 Sorry and wine on an empty stomach Honestly I haven't tried bread making since I bought this thermometer. But it helps me regain confidence in my abilities, like a private investigator reassuring you you're not being paranoid; Yeah, sorry mate, your wife is *cheating* on you with her young colleague Steve. I can't open the oven but I keep it honest with this thermometer. Highly recommended.
