At first I was a bit skeptical because the grid was made of some kind of plastic. However, the technology has come a long way. The grater is surprisingly well made and exceeded all my expectations. My daikon oroshi (grated daikon/radish) turned out great. It's great to be able to use the mesh insert or not. I just left it there. I especially like the standalone design so I don't have to worry about looking for another kitchen item to "catch" grated radish or ginger. All instructions were in Japanese but as one reviewer mentioned it was possible to figure out how to do it. Use it with the illustrations provided. Perhaps the troupe will include English in their repertoire in the future. The size was just right and the rubberized base kept the grater from slipping. I recommend this product.
