Review on ASUS Ultra Slim I7 1165G7 Thunderbolt UX425EA EH71 by Sammie Rodriguez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very stylish laptop

I spent a lot of time trying to find a laptop that would perform satisfactorily. Many inexpensive laptops use less powerful microprocessors, so I wanted to make sure this laptop had enough power. This comes with an 11th Gen i7 from Intel with a lot of power and speed and offers a sluggish free performance. So far, there have been no disappointments even after installing antivirus software. This product performs well from the first time you open the box to the first time you boot up your computer. The calculator comes with a good scratch-resistant case, a USB power adapter and a USB-C based power adapter. The written manual is sparse but not really necessary as the calculator is pretty much set up once you switch it on. Prepare to provide your credentials to Microsoft and other platforms. It's best to do this at home so you can connect to WiFi, update, and register from the start. It doesn't seem to have too much malware, but there is a trial version for both McAfee and Office 365. The initial download was pretty easy and gives you the option to try O365 or connect to an existing account. I already had an O365 subscription and it just connected me to my account and started downloading files from my OneDrive with no further steps. It was wonderful. Unfortunately, linking it to my McAfee account wasn't that easy, but it wasn't difficult either as it involved few manual steps. It would be nice if McAfee made this part seamless. Hardware-wise, the keyboard is a good size for a 14-inch screen with solid keystrokes. The mouse pad/second screen is unique and takes some getting used to. Since the mini-screen can be used as a mouse pad, you might spend some time turning the screen on and off compared to the touchpad, but after a while it becomes second nature. It works with an external mouse. You can assign custom apps to open on the mini screen, which can be useful but requires the right app. It's good for things like YouTube, Netflix, and other types of media. Like any other screen, apps can be dragged from one screen to another. The laptop also supports the Thunderbolt interface. This allows you to connect other devices such as external drives, displays and other devices to your laptop through a single docking port. It also supports charging via Thunderbolt port. The included charger is USB C based and the simple quick start guide says the PC can run on 5-20 volts. Overall I am very happy with this laptop and would recommend it. It's small and light, under 3 pounds, but packs plenty of processing power and a good built-in second screen. Follow-up: Still very satisfied after a few months of use. The sound quality is excellent. So far the only disappointment has been trying to connect through a Dell Thunderbolt workstation. It loads well but hasn't been able to use multiple external monitors yet.

Pros
  • Slim and light at 2.58 lbs for easy portability
Cons
  • Too long to wait
