Let's be honest. This Victrola turntable is what it is. An entry-level turntable for those who just want to play through their record collection and don't mind a cheap feel or average sound. In my opinion there is nothing between a decent turntable and an entry level turntable like this. You'll find many, many entry-level turntables for a similar price, and they'll all sound the same and have the same build quality. It's almost an empty shell of professional gamers. But that's perfectly normal. That's all I need and probably what most people need. The price is right. Maybe about $10 cheaper and that would be closer to its price. The outer casing is solid and looks solid. Feels solid. The lid is hinged and perfectly aligned with the base. When you get to the innards, you'll notice a feeling of entry. Almost everything is made of plastic. In my opinion the hand is very, very light. Some extra weight MAY be required to maintain good contact with the record's grooves. Otherwise, a worn record can cause frequent skipping. It shouldn't be too difficult either. But that might add some weight. There's a central spindle mount for 45rpm records. It's also plastic and only sits in place when in use. If you want to change the 45th turntable, you are almost guaranteed to tear yourself away from the turntable along with the record. The knobs are plastic but feel solid when turned and everything is clearly labeled. I didn't test the input functions because I don't really need them. I have a different component system to listen to music other than vinyl. So I can't comment on that. Summary - BENEFITS: * Victrola is a well known brand that you can trust. * Ideal for those who just want to play vinyl without worrying about high quality sound. * Compact - While not designed for compact travel, it can be easily picked up and moved around when needed. * Available for entry level. I prefer a lid that can be closed while gaming, so it doesn't collect dust when it's open.* Very "plasticky" feel to the internal mechanics. I admit that other brands in this price range are exactly the same. If you just want to play vinyl and don't consider yourself an audiophile, this is a good buy and your vinyl will be back in rotation.
