Connectivity issues with MiHome have been discussed sufficiently in reviews. It's important to keep in mind the app's server version and the device's country of origin. The Chinese server won't be able to read it until the year 2022 if it passes the European localization filter (EU postscript, European plug). In theory, this is true for any and all Xiaomi smart home gadgets.
