I already owned the DCN692M1 and have just bought the DCN21PLM1. The main reason for upgrading/replacing is that nails for the DCN692 are often hard to come by and moreover are not 'code' in a growing number of municipalities. The DCN21 itself is a great gun and the only downside I've noticed so far is the increased weight and size - hence the one star deduction. The product/kit gets an additional star because DeWalt is so cheap as it doesn't offer hard cases. I was going to use the hard case that came with the DCN692, but the DCN21 is larger and just doesn't fit in, even with modifications. Nobody wants tools, chargers, batteries, accessories, etc. to get splattered and scratched in those useless soft cases! Also, soft suitcases should not be placed vertically, in a neat row, or stacked. Not to mention how the damn zippers get stuck and eventually break! I recently bought a DeWalt DCD460T2 (Stud Drill Kit) and it came with the same GARBAGE soft case. I called DeWalt to see if I could order an upgraded hard case and you guessed it. No! Shame on you, DeWalt. Care enough about your customers to at least give them the ability to have hard cases to carry ALL of their expensive tools/investments. Damn it, even if customers had the option to pay for better hard cases, surely countless consumers would bid and buy a better case.
