I bought the last two models of this light, a 36 inch (for a 40 year old aquarium) and a 24 inch (for a 10 year old aquarium) . i am very popular Both are enough that when I got my new tank I decided to get another set. I bought a 48" for my 55, although a 36 will suffice if I don't want to completely cover the tank due to the expandable sides. These lights are very unobtrusive but still bright enough to really cover most of my area illuminate.Through the glass dome there is a small strip at the front of the tank where I can't see my fish as well as elsewhere.but that's more due to the hood design.I've used it outdoors.Water in front of it with no problems though if If you have hard water they can be very difficult to remove stains. As LED lights they run very cool and don't noticeably raise the temperature of my axolotl tank even though I only wear them for a few hours at a time.I just love them that I don't have to worry about accidentally getting them burned like I did with old fluorescent lights I used! It's been a year now and they are just as bright wi e on the day I bought them. I've thrown them in my tanks several times (although they were taken out immediately) and they never ran out. I use them over my plantings, spraying 10 gallons of CO2, and they have worked very well for low to moderate light plants. Anubias, Java Fern, Java Moss, Crypts, Anachris, Water Spirit and a few others have greatly improved. about halfway up my tank, and didn't provide enough light to actually see the fish. If they had to stay on all night I'd rather dim them but since I only turn them on when we stay up late and they turn off completely at night anyway it would be nice to see more fish. But still it's good when the fish swims up and you can see the blue flash. Considering the price I'd definitely say they're worth buying - my only reservation is that the first one I sent was a little bland despite the box being quite badly dented and not even fully sealed. The replacement they sent me works like a charm but I'll definitely check how well they're packaged just in case.
