I bought a 77 piece set because the smaller sets are too expensive. I've always cut with an acetylene/oxyfuel torch, so this is my first time using a plasma torch. Consumables last longer as I learn to master the process. Regarding the burning cone rating, I don't know what kind of material it is, I have a ceramic with a pressed brass thread. The brass thread is the only difference to the kit supplied with the machine. Already made a few cuts with new consumables and it cuts just like the OEM. The earth is crucial to the process. No plasma cutter works well with bad ground. I removed the cover on mine and unscrewed the ground screw (which wasn't very tight), stripped the powder coating off of it and screwed the ground screw in very tight. I had about 30 feet of #2 ground wire, so I made a new ground wire the same length as the torch. I replaced the ground clamp with a level 2 RF ground clamp (actually a decent clamp). You should always check the connections all over the floor before cutting, and then about once a year depending on how often you use it. The hardware on the RF clamp has been detached on both sides. Basically, make a few small snips, turn off the machine, and check all ground connections for heat. If any of them are hot, it's a bad connection and should be fixed.
