After the kids broke the last electric pencil sharpener in the house, I bought this inexpensive replacement to keep them away from their expensive sharpeners. My expectations for this item weren't very high, so I can say that basically it's just 'good' and 'functional' - nothing special. It only sharpens standard size pencils and works best with hard-tipped pencils. . An ordinary No. 2 school pencil is thus sharpened without any problems; Colored pencils are less sharp and with sharper pens; the soft pencils were eaten up and the sharpener clogged with splinters of lead. Even regular #2 pencils work best if you also turn the pencil against their heads while sharpening. I don't expect this to last forever; It feels light and doesn't really have as much power/speed as some electric sharpeners. It's probably enough to get you through the school year, and since I bought it for about $10, it's reasonable value to me.
