As this is a new flash drive I expected it to be cheap plastic that probably won't last much. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it up and found it was metal. The cap (black base) is held by threads and not just pressed onto the cap. Part of the lipstick firmly in place. Admittedly I've only had it a few days so can't comment on this item having broken somewhere but I'm optimistic it will hold up if tossed in a purse or bag and pushed around.
