Simple, durable and works.

5 month review: This Stanley thermos replaced an insulated coffee pot which also had an insulated lid and spout. At some point, even with careful use and care, the carafe itself lost its tightness and could no longer keep drinks hot (The coffee pot was heated on the outside almost as much as the coffee inside. Room temperature for 2 hours. With a broken lid, the coffee pot behaved like a radiator , which cooled the coffee as quickly as possible). I've only ever used a Stanley thermos for hot coffee. easy to clean + easy to carry + no leakage when closed, no matter if the thermos is on its side + lid and closure seem to be ok. Maybe the version I got (January 2019) is a newer model. I haven't had any wear and tear as stated in older reviews. CONS: - The lack of a filler neck can take some getting used to. If you're new to spilling things, there may be drips. A few tips to get the hottest coffee for the longest time: --- Preparing the thermos: 1) Pour in hot water (I just used the faucet at the hottest) and close it. cover for a few minutes. 2) Brew coffee while the thermos fills up. 3) When the coffee is ready, empty the thermos with hot water, fill with coffee and close the lid.* short time to heat it up as much as possible before transferring into an insulated thermos. --- Pouring: This is probably the biggest downside of insulated carafes as you only pour in one big hole and the heat escapes, but since the thermos isn't out of service like my carafe, I feel like sometimes simple is just better is working. --- 12 HOUR HEAT RETENTION TEST The thermos is most effective when completely full. So when you drink/drain it, heat retention decreases and it cools faster. I can safely say that when I filled a thermos and forgot/left it, it was still pretty damn warm after 24 hours. probably at the 6 or 7 o'clock mark in my chart below. However, with normal use, you will be drinking throughout the day. My results: Drink about a cup of freshly brewed Bunn-O-Matic coffee per hour. (I didn't have a thermostat to check the absolute numbers, so get the method of measuring the temperature. Oops! Oops!) 7:00: Hot steam. must blow / sip8am: hot steam. must blow/sip9am: Hot steam. Must blast/sip 10am: hot steam. should blow/slurp 11: No smoking (maybe because it's not cold anymore), but still very, very hot. 12 p.m.: No smoking, but still very hot. 1pm: No steam but still very hot. 2pm: No steam but still very hot. 3:00 p.m.: Hot but immediately drinkable. 4:00 p.m.: Hot but immediately drinkable. 5:00 a.m.: Not hot anymore, but still quite warm.** 6:00 p.m.: Not hot anymore, but still warm enough. **7pm: Not hot anymore, but still quite warm. ** at 10am, 11am and 12pm, although it was warm, I turned on the microwave for 30 seconds and it got hot again.
