Review on Derwent Manual Helical Sharpener 2302001 by Morgan Gilmore

Well, Derwent is fun again. I love it when a product arrives and is better than you expected. I'm new to the art industry now and am trying to learn as much as I can about how to get the best bang for your buck. I mean, we're starving artists, aren't we? I honestly didn't know there was so much caviar in art supplies. Why do you need a special sharpener for colored pencils and not for charcoal or a regular #2 pencil for everyday use? Well that makes a BIG difference and doesn't even get me started on pastels! I've found my niche in charcoal and pastel. I think. At least I'm pretty sure and after two major mishaps I knew I had to do some research and I turned to my trusty old Derwent to point me in the right direction. I think I spent 9 hours watching video reviews and reading everything I could find about the best pencil sharpener. Before jumping into the creative pond, I used electricity and of course now I know that this is not acceptable in the industry. KUM has excellent hand holders that are sufficient for crayons and reliable twos. But I need a sharp long point for my charcoal and I don't want to pull my string and buy a pen holder. It doesn't happen guys! After all that was said and done there were two pretty good options but knowing Derwent I decided to stay loyal to the brand. And I'm glad that i did it It's metal, not plastic. The clip holds the pencil in place so I can sharpen it with ONE HAND. And yes this means a desktop mount comes with the unit (Mitsubishi doesn't) and is very firm and very solid. But the best is the point. They are beautiful and I love just looking at them. Well for you crayons, this will still work great, it's just that you don't sharpen as long, but in my newfound love for my graphite and charcoal, well I'm in heaven with amazingly long needles. So far I've said my Derwent bag is my best purchase of all my art supplies; but it's a solid contender for that position. I just need more time to appreciate this little one but after sharpening over 50 pencils today I fell in love with this wonderful sharpener!
