I've secured it under my leopard gecko tank. I don't have a thermostat for the heater itself, but it doesn't raise the tank temp above 85 Fahrenheit. I have a felt pad and feel warm again but not hot. However, I keep plenty of climbing paraphernalia in the cage in case my little gecko gets uncomfortable during the day and he has a timer to keep him cool at night.
