I have several M.2 drives on my Asus ROG Zenith II Extreme Alpha, and unfortunately the third slot is on the back of the board and has terrible cooling, with no room for full-size heatsinks. Attached is a picture, it's a pretty common place for some reason, although accessing the back of the motherboard is incredibly inconvenient. On my Sabrent Rocket 4.0, my temperatures (without the heatsink) went from idling at 55ยฐC peaking at 84ยฐC under Crystal Disk Mark to idling at 45ยฐC and peaking at 55ยฐC after the heatsink was installed. Much better delta than I expected before/after, roughly idle delta - 10ยฐC peak delta - 30ยฐC Just fantastic. I used a 2mm and I think it barely fits due to the depth of the MOSFET MB. My only complaint is that there were no instructions, but installing the heatsink is very intuitive, so not a big deal. You simply remove the adhesive from the back of the heatsink and attach it to the drive. If you need more security, you can use these small rubber bands. Came with 3 black and 3 clear, I used the clear ones. I wholeheartedly recommend this heatsink, especially the 2mm version for tight spaces like the back of the motherboard. Phenomenal passive cooling.
