A few weeks ago I was fixing panels on an old rotary mower. I used 3/16 stainless steel rivets and a 35 year old Marson hand tool. Turns out I'm 35 years older too. Also, Marson was not really designed for stainless steel rivets of this size. I could pull, but only with a woodworking clamp to gain more leverage. I'm lucky I didn't break the riveter's jaws. Got 1423 in the mail today and tried the same rivet. Piece of the cake! I'm far from the production shop and rarely use a riveter so can't help with durability estimates. I can tell you that I swam regularly with Hobie crampons and had to replace loose monel rivets every year. I wish I had had that 1423 back then! Axelsap is right, he wins thanks to the spacer between the nose and the gun. Anywhere between 0.070 and 0.100 is good. You can't put more spacers there or you'll run out of thread. 10/15/20: I was wrong! No gasket required! Simply unscrew the nose and tighten the large lock nut. Has the same effect as a spacer without a spacer. That should have been in the instructions.
