I needed a more accurate gauge than most laypeople use. In fact, I've found that many "professionals" in tire fitting use very inaccurate readings when the bar comes up to indicate pressure. Over time they seem to become inaccurate. It is "professional" quality with a hydraulically damped pointer display. It's not digitally readable, which I think usually implies more precision than what you actually get (IMO). Fluid damping means you have to wait for the needle to reach its maximum value, which is the actual pressure. This means that it is slower to work on one or all tires. I found that this was not an obstacle for me. I'd say you can easily define a quarter pound of pressure, which suits my needs very well. Often the pressure gauges don't stay on the tire shaft and you have to fiddle with the plug, which often causes pressure to be lost. This is particularly important for bicycle tires, but very useful for car tires. I only had to try once and it held and didn't leak or I had to fiddle with it. It is certainly more expensive and much larger than the pen sensors. I prefer what I trust over the convenience of storage. I'd rather it cost less, but you pay for what you get.
