Review on Smartmi Evaporative Humidifiers: Cool, No Mist for Bedroom & Baby, Top Fill, Self-Cleaning, Smart APP Control, Auto Shutoff & Air-drying by Tony Crook

Revainrating 2 out of 5

We hoped for the best but got bad results.

I had very high hopes for this as I think the main benefit of this unit was that it was self-cleaning and quiet. This is not good. And I should have expected poor performance because I asked two questions before purchasing and the staff basically copied and pasted the device description as an answer. I used a humidifier in my master bedroom. The size of the room is 13.5 x 11.2. The first night I tried it on level 1, no difference. I looked at the interface and found that the humidity in the room is a whopping 91%. This was utter nonsense, of course, because when I woke up my throat was dry and my humidity monitor registered the temperature in the room at 30. So I'll give the device a fair share of the doubt. Maybe if I set it to level 2 there will be a difference. Night comes and I set the level to 2. The interface says that the humidity in the room is 90% and after a few minutes it drops to 70%. My standalone monitor reads 35%. OK, let's see how it goes. Occasionally woke up at night because of the noise and because the interface is still bright when dimmed, I had a hard time falling asleep again. The woman was unhappy. Third night, maximum level, no change, and it was LOUD. It's as if you can hear the discs turning in circles above the sound of the engine. I thought maybe the humidity sensor could cause the humidification to stop. With the ultrasound machines I have, you can set them to stop once you reach a certain level. It's still a little weird though, so I took it to a smaller room that's about 7x9 to try it out. Initial humidity showed 90%, blown to level 3, checked after 2 hours. It was a little wetter than when we started. For cleaning - Yes, there doesn't seem to be any dirt left in the water and the discs are easy to take apart and clean. What they don't tell you is that there is another set of "smaller discs" or rolls in the main compartment that you can't take out. Once the mold has formed there, you're sort of done. Normally this would be a 1 star rating but the tank itself was clean which was great as I have used evaporative humidifiers before and there was mold and mold stains after the first night. Pros: - Definitely easy to clean discs that can be taken out. - There is no mold growth on the windows or the tank, but I've only used it for three days and the water has been changed twice. - Relatively easy to use interface. Cons - Secondary supplied "discs" or rollers are difficult to clean. Doesn't look like it can be taken apart for cleaning. - Dimmed UI is still pretty bright when you wake up in the middle of the night. - The app kept crashing while loading (IOS 15). Unfortunately the product descriptions made it out to be something it wasn't. Maybe I just got a defective model. It's anyone's guess at this point, but I'll definitely be bringing it back.
