Facilitates the inflation of bicycle tires.
When you inflate a bicycle tire, it takes so little air to create a few pounds of pressure difference. As a result, it can be difficult to disconnect the cartridge fitting quickly enough without losing 5 pounds or more. With them, it's an instant and easy shutdown. I had to search for a suitable barbed fitting for my 12 volt air pump for some time. They appear to be of good quality, with considerable weight.
