Review on High Capacity Panasonic BK-3HCCE4BE Eneloop Pro AA Ni-MH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries (Pack of 4) by Borris Mcgee

Be careful when using in underwater strobe / sealed compartment

Pros: Holds a charge for a stable strobe, I can take about 500 shots with it. I don't have to change the batteries in my strobe between dives. The Bad: The documentation for these batteries clearly states that they are not rated for underwater flashes, especially in enclosed and watertight areas. These batteries emit hydrogen, and sealed devices cannot disperse the gas, so the compartment becomes pressurized. The battery can explode, leaving brown goo in the flash. This happened to the three of us on our last dive. We left our cameras in a bucket of water in the sun, the heat caused the gas in the flash to expand even more and one of the batteries exploded. Luckily no water got into the flash and the flash is still working fine. I still use those batteries to this day - I just don't leave my camera in the sun or in a camera bucket. I rinse, dry and open the compartment as soon as possible.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Easily wrinkled
