Excellent filter but tricky start for turtle tank

I've been using a Filstar XP3 filter for at least 15 years and started leaking. Since parts I no longer need are neither manufactured nor sold and I put too much effort into my own production, I decided to try this filter here. I was able to find an open box for almost $70 but to my surprise it hadn't even been used yet, all the filter media included was still sealed in the bag and the plastic had a brand new plastic smell so I was very happy with it. For the most part the setup was pretty standard, I had to buy more hose as it was only enough for one side with the way I have my setup and I went ahead and put together a custom outlet. with PVC as I am using it in a turtle tank and the water needs to enter the tank at a lower level. Due to the lower water level in turtle tanks, the booster pump siphon system is almost completely inoperative. This is important to note if you plan to use this for turtles. The solution for turtle tanks is to pre-fill the filter with water and connect the hoses, then fill the suction tube in the off position with as much water as possible. My old Filstar had a screw cap at the top of the air intake to make this easier, but unfortunately this filter doesn't have such a feature. I ended up just filling the tube with the U-shaped inlet tip removed and then plugging it back in after it had enough water in it. However you do it, once the hose is full, turn on the filter and it should start the suction loop properly. Next time I run into this problem I'll make a custom air intake to make it easier. The filter was pretty quiet but still had a lot of air in it, probably partly due to my priming method, but I've had it running for about two months and it's pretty quiet. Compared to my previous Filstar XP3, this thing is noticeably quieter. I've been obsessed with silence since running a studio in the same room (with the filter housing under the tank covered in thick stuff to make it quieter) and I definitely have to say this filter is amazing in that regard, if you go give him one. time to calm down. As far as it actually filters, it can easily handle a nearly 10-inch red ear pusher. I also bought a pre-filter to reduce maintenance costs. Overall, aside from the annoying priming setting, which is entirely related to my use, this filter was great and is still my favorite.
