Good for beginners: my feedback

My daughter is studying Chinese and wanted to practice calligraphy. I bought her this brush and some magic calligraphy paper for writing with water. This brush seems to work well, it feels like quality in your hand, and is an economical choice for a beginner. When the brush arrives, the hairs are coated with glue which will need to be washed off. There are plenty of websites or you tube videos to show this step, as well as the correct way to hold the brush and to form each of the character strokes. We don't have a brush rack, so to dry I put a string through the loop at the end of the handle and hung it from a kitchen cabinet handle to dry. Keep the plastic cap that comes with it to protect the hairs when stored; I was able to punch a small hole in the end of the cap with a tiny punch to allow some air circulation.

Pros
  • Good for beginner.
Cons
  • The brush may fray easily with frequent use
