Review on Aquarium Thermometer: General Tools AQ150 with Waterproof Probe for Accurate In and Out Temperature Monitoring by Amy Lucero

It's sad how few temperature alarms are

I have a marine reef aquarium and anyone who has experienced a cooler failure knows the catastrophic effects of high temperatures on a marine reef. It's sad how few temperature alarms there are. You would think they would be as easy to find as space heaters, but they are not. When I discovered this product I thought it was perfect. Renowned distributor. Reasonable price. In fact, it worked fine for 6-8 months, but it started giving false positives and strangely high temperature readings. I fixed the problem by shorting the sensor wire (the wire is very thin and the insulation on it is very thin). Guilty! I ordered two more and struggled to cover the sensor wire with thick tape to avoid the problem I had before. Imagine my surprise when another sensor failed. This time the wire is not damaged. It just didn't work. Same for #3. So now I have 3 perfect devices and no sensors. So I called General Instruments and spoke to one of their technicians who promised to find me a supply of sensors, but I never heard from him again. I would highly recommend this product if its cheapest component weren't bloody unreliable. If someone knows a better product, please write about it in the review. Thanks for listening.
