Makita seems to have lowered their standards. I'm a steel fabricator and have worn out 6 or 7 of these 4 1/2 inch angle grinders in the past. They all served well until their deaths. My first complaint: Makita decided to go from a 5/8* shank to a 7/8" shank. The larger the shank, the larger the drive and locking wheels, making the tool bulky and less manoeuvrable. Second, the slide shifter is a lot harder to snap in. I bought a twin pack and both have the same shifting issue Third, the latch button on the spike is a lot harder to press and doesn't seem to snap as well as on previous models. With the derailleur, I have to take at least one glove off to change a wheel .
