Review on 🐒 Zoo Med Turtle Clean 15: The Ultimate External Canister Filter for Turtle Tanks by Chantelle Mills

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Ideal for small pools!

My idea for my small 5 gallon aquarium was originally for dwarf shrimp but since I started my hobby with fresh fish I decided to start with fish. Petco recommended five neon tetras for my 5 gallon aquarium. I picked up four neon tetras. I bought the fish on April 1st. I originally used a standard tank filtration system. It seemed oversized to me (its nominal value is between 5 and 10 gallons) and it takes up valuable space in the aquarium. So I was looking for mini canister filters and came across this gem. Turtle filter Zoo Med Clean 15! It is very small and easy to assemble. I've only had it for a few weeks and it hasn't leaked or broken. Some people have suggested that the design is poor given the location of the filter media. I think time will tell if this is the case. But my tank is clean and the filter works with strong suction. I actually reconfigured my filter to suck through a dual sponge rather than just a tube and cap. However, I removed a sponge and installed the original air intake cover on the intake. I think this allows more water to pass through the filter material. The single sponge setup is cool because I think when I add the shrimp they will be attracted to and stick to the food trapped on the surface of the sponge. The original air intake cover has small slits so I don't think fish or shrimp will be sucked in, but if necessary I can close them with a thin mesh (stocking/hose). In short, I really like my system, it arrived in good condition and quickly! It appears to be well put together and includes all the necessary parts to get it working right out of the box. Ideal. I would highly recommend this filter if it suits your needs.
