This is a good set of shorts (2) - both fit our 12 year old very well (4'11" - 95lbs) - size 10 - 12. It has about 4+" of extra waist room if needed, but the elastic at the back handles that easily. They're both a good mix of colors with a nice thin mesh lining - not sure I own them would describe as a board.lined shorts as sand collects in the mesh.The ties on the outside are more for beauty, but there is a separate elasticated drawstring on the inside of the waistband to really adjust the fit and tighten if needed.The legs themselves are thinner compared to other brands we've tried in this size range but still work well. If you have a kid with big hips they can be a little tight. They're always n They're also quite long and sit just above the knee - they're just thinner. All in all a very good pair of swimming trunks and should last a long time. a year or more.
