I ordered two of these USB volume controls for a project. Out of the box they looked decent, although one rattled slightly. I opened up the case to see what might be loose and found two strips of self-adhesive wheel weights inside, one of which was loose and pressed against the (exposed) backside of the circuit board. There was no protection, not even a piece of cardboard between the weights and the board. The unfortunate reviewer who lost his motherboard and PCI-E USB card was likely the victim of a lack of quality construction. However, after removing the weight from both devices, they work reasonably well on both Win10 PCs and Debian Linux PCs. Just be aware of the possibility of a short circuit due to loose internal weights, and also note that the board isn't attached to anything other than the nut that holds the potentiometer to the case, it just floats free, so be careful when connecting the USB-C . Cable. The bumpons installed were of good quality for what it's worth.
